At the Wilde Rose Roastery we have a secret! We'll give you a hint--it has to do with great coffee. Okay, Okay--we
can't keep a secret that's this good. Come a little closer, and we'll let the secret out of its burlap bag.
Wilde Rose Roastery roasts every bean "Full City," French, or darker. So what's so special about that?
Well, most roasters roast their beans as light as they can. Roasting light produces less than memorable coffee, light in body,
and light in taste. Dark roasted coffee is heavy in body, flavorful, and has lower caffeine and acidity. Dark roasted coffee should
never be bitter--the skill of the roaster is your primary safeguard.
Our coffee is roasted in an antique Diedrich Roaster in small batches. Automation is kept to a minimum--we rely on the
craftsmanship of our roaster.
Our roastery is one of the few owned by a woman, Micki Rose, and has always been a family business.
Feel free to look at the varietals, decafs,
blends, and dessert coffees we offer.
Or view a complete list by looking at our "coffee offerings", and each month, we offer you "hand-picked"
coffee specials.
Our
Goal has never been to be
the biggest - only the Best!
Coffees do vary from country to country, region to region, climate to climate--even harvest to harvest.
Your palate will determine your preferences. Some prefer the brilliant clarity of beans from South
American plantations, others, the heavy, "winey" flavor of African or Indonesian coffees.
At Wilde
Rose, we recommend experimenting, cupping a variety of coffees in much the same way we do
when we select the beans offered to you.
No tour would be complete without a view of our gleaming copper and brass 50's vintage Diedrich
roaster. The roasting chamber still retains the patina of coffee that has collected over thousands of
roasts. We wouldn't swap it for the high-volume, full bag roasters in use today--we think that would take all
the fun out of it!
A few words from our roastmaster--that's Ron! "When you roast beans as dark as
we do, seconds in the roaster measure the difference between glistening
full-flavored beans and--charcoal." This is the reason, along with consistency,
that Ron roasts all of the beans himself.
If price is your primary concern, we suggest you move on. We continue to
reject cheaper quality beans in our quest to offer only the top beans in every
category. Keep in mind, that $1 a pound cheaper is equivalent to 2½ ¢ per cup. Why drive a Yugo when you can drive a Rolls Royce?
